Following the incident, a 47-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of gross negligence manslaughter, but has since been released under investigation.

A second man has now been arrested on the same offence, Essex Police have said.

The second man is still in custody, meanwhile the force also added that a joint investigation with the Health and Safety Executive is ongoing.

According to a hearing in Chelmsford, Essex, Coroner's officer Deborah Frost said George had been 'working on a roof when he fell through a plastic skylight, landing on the ground below'.

She added that paramedics and police attended, but he died at the scene, with his provisional cause of death recorded as 'traumatic injury to head and torso consistent with fall from height'.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a report of an incident at Campfield Road in Shoebury at around 10 a.m. this morning (27 March), during which a man who was working at height had fallen and sustained an injury. The ambulance service, including an air ambulance, was in attendance.

"Sadly, the man died at the scene. We will continue liaising with partners, including the Heath and Safety Executive."

George's mum Linda - who appeared side-by-side with George and her late husband Pete on the Gogglebox sofa for several years - released a tribute to her son following the incident.

"I’m devastated, he was like my best friend," she told the Swindon Advertiser.

"He had the best heart in the world. He was generous, funny and kind, with bundles of charm and buckets of personality. He did more in his 40 years than people do in 90 - he’s even had dinner with the Prince of Dubai.

"He was crazy, but after coming out of showbiz, he couldn’t get his life back together. He just couldn’t get over the death of Pete."
