For those who need to brush up ahead of viewing, the five mafia families begun to rise to power in the 1920s, during the Prohibition Era.
As they took control of Manhattan's unions, high-rise construction sites, restaurants and even hospitals, the families began to work together, collectively yielding authority over the whole city, and rendering themselves almost invincible.

What was once known as the 'fun city,' was then dubbed 'fear city,' as people lived their lives terrified of getting onto the wrong side of the Mob.
Following the FBI investigation to bring down the famous five-some, the three-part documentary will show the extreme lengths authorities had to go to stop their reign of power, and bring them to justice.
Netflix teases that the doc will be like "a real-life The Sopranos," telling "the inside story of the rise and fall of New York's most powerful Mafia families and the end of the golden era of the Mob.

Executive produced by Dimitri Doganis, Adam Hawkins, Jon Liebman and Bart Layton, the series is set to land on the streaming platform on 22nd July.
It will air previously unheard surveillance recordings for the very first time, alongside archival news footage and brand new interviews with those affected by the mob, investigating the mob and living alongside them.
